Fisherman’s Mark, invites local businesses and community groups to participate in our Grocery Store Sweep, a high-energy, purpose-driven shopping challenge that benefits our Free MARKet food pantry and builds awareness about the realities of food insecurity.
Here’s how it works:
- You pick the budget. Your donation becomes the spending limit for your group’s shopping adventure.
- We create the challenge. Teams receive real-world shopping scenarios inspired by the families we serve: a senior on a strict budget, a family needing gluten-free foods, a parent shopping with WIC restrictions, or a baby in need of formula and diapers.
- Game on! Teams (typically 3–5 groups of 4–5 people each) race through the store with their scenario and budget in hand. It’s part strategy, part empathy exercise, and all impact.
- Check the receipts. Teams return to the register to see how close they came to their budget — and what they learned along the way.
- Stock the shelves. The food is delivered directly to our Free MARKet pantry to be distributed to neighbors in need.
- Reflect and connect. Back at the pantry, we talk through the experience — from shopping challenges to the importance of nutritious, culturally appropriate, and affordable food access.
It’s a fun, eye-opening experience that blends philanthropy, learning, and teamwork — and every sweep directly benefits the community.
