FLY – Feeding Local Youth

Nutritious meals for kids when school meals aren’t available.

FLY helps make sure local children have access to healthy, kid-friendly meals during weekends, school breaks, and the summer months.

Through partnerships with local schools and community programs, Fisherman’s Mark provides meals and activities that help support children throughout the year.

How FLY Works

FLY provides food support throughout the year, with different approaches during the school year and summer months.

SCHOOL YEAR

Weekend Support

During the school year, FLY supports K–12 students in local school districts within Fisherman’s Mark’s service area who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals.

On Friday afternoons, backpacks containing lunches are delivered to participating schools for children to take home for the weekend.

SUMMER

Lunches All Week Long

During the summer, FLY lunches are available to Free MARKet families with children so that access to nutritious food can continue when school meals are unavailable.

Families can pick up a week’s worth of lunches through the Free MARKet or participating local summer programs, including Lambertville Parks and Recreation Camp.

Who FLY Serves

FLY supports local children who may otherwise miss access to school meals during weekends and summer months.

Local Partnerships

Participating schools and summer programs may vary from year to year, allowing FLY to respond to where support is most needed.

Thoughtfully Packed for Kids

FLY lunches are assembled by a team of volunteers with both nutrition and kid appeal in mind.

Menus are planned to include a balanced mix of foods while also choosing items children are likely to enjoy. The goal is simple: provide a nutritious meal that feels familiar, appealing, and easy to take home.

FLY meals are meant to feel like a normal, welcome part of the week. Each one is packed with care and designed to be something children can enjoy, with kid-friendly foods and fresh fruits and vegetables included whenever possible.

Every lunch is packed with care to help bridge the gap when school meals are not available.

Why FLY Matters

For many children, school meals are an important part of the day. When school is closed for the weekend or summer, that dependable source of food can disappear.

FLY helps fill that gap by making nutritious meals available when school meals are not, giving families one less thing to worry about and helping children stay nourished throughout the year.

A healthy meal may seem simple, but consistent access to food can make a meaningful difference in a child’s day.

Part of a Larger Food Support Network

FLY is one part of Fisherman’s Mark’s broader food support network. Families who participate in FLY may also connect with the Free MARKet, Farm Stand, Mobile MARKet, Zero Waste meals, or other Fisherman’s Mark programs and services as needs arise.

Each program works a little differently, but all share the same goal: making nourishing food more accessible with dignity, consistency, and care.
