Spoonfuls of Support Raises Over $18,000 to Feed Local Youth

On Sunday, June 8th, the Stockton Market buzzed with generosity and creativity during Spoonfuls of Support—a unique fundraiser featuring sculptural wooden spoons created by local artist John McDevitt. Thanks to the incredible outpouring of community support, the event raised over $18,000, with 53 hand-carved spoons sold to benefit Fisherman’s Mark’s FLY Program (Feeding Local Youth).
“The event was wildly successful,” said Jennifer Williford, Executive Director of Fisherman’s Mark. “Stockton Market was a perfect venue, and we’re already talking with them about hosting another event. The energy was joyful and nonstop, with so many people excited to support local kids.”
Throughout the day, a steady stream of market-goers stopped by to admire and purchase the one-of-a-kind spoons, each one symbolic of nourishment, generosity, and community connection. “There was a constant flow of people interested in both the spoons and the mission of Fisherman’s Mark,” said McDevitt. “The idea of sculptural spoons feeding local youth really resonated with people.”
Fisherman’s Mark volunteers were on hand to speak with visitors about the FLY Program and the impact of their support. “Absolutely, the event raised awareness,” McDevitt added. “The FM team made sure of it.”
All proceeds from the event go directly toward providing nutritious meals for children in our region—a mission close to McDevitt’s heart. “There’s a joy in the making of the spoons and an even greater joy in knowing that this work helps feed children,” he shared. “I’m grateful to FM, Stockton Market, and the amazing people in our community who showed up for this cause.”
Reflecting on the overwhelming response, McDevitt joked, “Would I do anything differently next time? Make more spoons.”
While nearly every spoon was claimed during the event, McDevitt hinted that more opportunities are ahead. “If you still want a spoon, come early to the next Scoop Kitchen event,” he said. “Back to carving!”
